We bring the classics alive in our online English and American Literature degree programs.

Most literature classes fulfill requirements for a major. Our professors, however, bring the classics alive with their passion, allowing you to experience them as works of drama, intensity, action and power in our online English literature degree programs.

We carefully select each professor to teach works he/she has experience with and interest in. This assures that the works will be taught with all their interest and poignancy, not merely going through the motions of completing the course.

Through our online English and American literature courses and degree programs you will also gain a newfound understanding of the philosophical insights of these works, and how they relate to humanity. You will thereby experience their timelessness, appreciating how they relate to universal truths which apply to all eras, not only those in which these authors wrote.

The environment and nature have been among the most recurring and moving subjects in literature. Henry David Thoreua was at the forefront of bringing this literature to the political arena, instituting early environmental reform and paving the way for John Muir and those who came after him.

In this subschool of our online English literature degree program we explore all the prominent works of prose and poetry focusing on nature and the environment. We delve into informative, artistic, critical and political works focusing on these themes.

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced, but they
Out-did the sparkling leaves in glee;
A poet could not be but gay,
In such a jocund company!
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.
